The South African Amapiano Music Awards were created by the Amapiano Governing Body, an organization made up of industry professionals and stakeholders whose main aim is to reward notable achievers within a genre that the Organization felt wasn’t getting sufficient recognition for its efforts.
The Awards were officially launched on Monday the 19th of July 2021. No prior invitations were made for artists or record labels to submit any entries due to this being the very first edition.
For this first installment the Amapiano Governing Body considered artists’ contributions to the genre and musical projects that were released from 01 January 2020 to 31 March 2021. Moving forward, the Awards will consider contributions from Artists & Creators over a yearly period from March to March of every year.
Various factors are taken into consideration during the nominee selection process including including but not limited to contribution to the genre, creativity, brand presentation, and impact.
The categories range from Friends Of Amapiano; a category that recognizes Artists who are not necessarily categorized as Amapiano Acts but have made notable contributions to the genre; to Best Amapiano Street Dancer, a category that awards dancers that propel both the music and Yanos culture through their distinctive street dance moves.
The cash prizes awarded to the winning Artists in each category of the First Annual South African Amapiano Music Awards are as follows:
